Various information goes into establishing your credit score with Transunion, a credit bureau used by many credit card and loan companies to determine credit worthiness of consumers. First, a credit score summarizes your credit history, considering factors such as the type of accounts, how many accounts you have, if you pay your bills on time, current credit usage, collections, and age of accounts. This information factors into calculating a credit score, which lenders use to determine your likelihood of paying the credit card bill.

What is TransUnion Credit Score Used For?

what is a credit score definition

The Transunion credit score is calculated by applying numerical data to the information listed on a credit report. Lenders may use this number to evaluate your creditworthiness when applying for a Transunion credit card. The credit score gives creditors a quick glimpse of a person's credit history based on the final score calculation. Consumers with a higher credit score may receive an answer for approval faster and may qualify for a lower APR when applying with the best Transunion credit cards.

Is TransUnion a Reliable Credit Score?

illustration transunion is very accurate as long as creditors accurately report data to the bureau

Transunion is very accurate as long as creditors accurately report data to the bureau. Therefore, it is common for Transunion credit scores to differ from the other credit bureaus based on credit score calculations and the accuracy of information provided.

Which Banks Pull TransUnion Only?

Several banks use Transunion when pulling credit information for credit card and loan applicants. When a company uses Transunion, they often use the services of one credit bureau; however, it does not guarantee that they may not pull credit reports from either of the other two bureaus. In addition, it is common for creditors to pull reports from one or more credit bureaus.

Below are some banks known to pull data from Transunion:

  • Avianca
  • Apple Card - Goldman Sachs Bank
  • Barclays
  • Capital One
  • Synchrony Bank
  • U.S Bank

Transunion vs Equifax: Which is More Accurate?

transunion and Equifax scores

When comparing the accuracy of credit bureaus, neither one is more accurate than the other. The accuracy of credit reports varies based on which information is being reported to the bureau and how accurate the information is. Because of this, it may look like Equifax is more accurate than Transunion when it is a matter of what is being reported by credit card companies and banks.

Do Credit Card Companies Look at TransUnion or Equifax?

In most situations, credit card companies look at all three credit bureaus; however, it is more common for a credit card company to look at the Equifax report and score over one from Transunion.
