WHITESVILLE, Ky. — Whitesville Elementary School is hosting the official opening of its new outdoor and indoor fitness equipment with a community celebration at 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 8. The school is at 9656 Kentucky 54, Whitesville.

WES received a grant from Baptist Health Madisonville to implement an innovative fitness education program at the school. The Project Fit America program provides state-of-the-art outdoor fitness equipment that is available for community use, as well as indoor equipment in the gymnasium to be incorporated as part of the school’s physical education programs. The grant also provided on-site training for teachers and students and curriculum that will be used in guiding fitness education for WES children for years to come.

Equipment that will be demonstrated and available on Sept. 8 includes sports hoops, which are used to develop upper body strength and provide a cardio workout and abdominal development; and fitness cups, which provide an exciting and fast-paced exercise for kids that also promotes teamwork and cooperation.

Representatives from Baptist Health Madisonville and the school will be on hand to guide guests in the correct use of fitness equipment. The celebration is open to the public.
