MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. – Mike Kirby's 5th Annual "Fishing with Kids" at Lake Malone State Park will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Lake Malone State Park campgrounds. Signups start on event day at 6:00 AM. You must be registered before 8:00 AM.
This event is for children ages 4 through 15: all participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Contestants will be divided by age: 4-7, 8-11, & 12-15.
GRAND PRIZE: A 14 FOOT JOHNBOAT- all set to go fishing!
A free cookout will follow the tournament for participants - hamburgers and hotdogs will be provided free of charge and cooked by Conservation Officers. Last year (2012), more than 1,000 hamburgers/hotdogs were served. The RC Cola Company will provide drinks.
This event is for children ages 4 through 15: all participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. You can fish from the bank or in a boat. Please bring a BUCKET or something to put your fish in. Stringers are not allowed. You must obey all state laws and regulations. Contestants will be divided by age - 4-7, 8-11, and 12-15. You must furnish your own bait. You can use Live Bait or Artificial Bait. Parents/guardians are not allowed to fish, but may help their child.
The Country Store at Lake Malone & Wayne's Place will open early for Mike Kirby's “Fishing With Kids” on Saturday, June 15 at 5:00 AM. Bait and supplies will be available for purchase at both stores. If parents are concerned about arriving on time for the event, consider camping at Lake Malone State Park the night before. PAY OUTS:
1st Place: Big Bass, Big Crappie, Big Blue Gill Family, Catfish, will receive a Trophy & a $25.00 Gift Card to Academy Sports in each group.
2nd Place: Biggest Bass, Crappie, Blue Gill Family, Catfish, will receive a Trophy and a $15.00 Gift Card to Academy Sports in each group.
3rd Place: Biggest Bass, Crappie, Blue Gill Family, Catfish will receive a Trophy and a $10.00 Gift Card to Academy Sports in each group.
You can only win one place.
There will drawings for many prizes including gift cards, tents, sleeping bags, rods & reels, fishing boxes, toys, and tee-shirts - all participants will be eligible to win. There will be drawings for parents, too. You must be present to win.
Over 350 children participated last year.

Immediately following “Fishing with Kids” will be a fish fry supper. The supper will start at 3:00 PM and will be open to the public. Supper, dessert plus a drink will be $6.00.
On the menu: fried fish, coleslaw, baked beans, hush puppies, dessert, and drink. Drink only is $1.00, dessert only is $1.00.
All proceeds of the fish fry will go to the Friends of Lake Malone State Park, a non-profit 501(c)(3).
