Mowing the yard, it’s chore you may do each week, but it’s not so easy for one Kentucky man who suffers from a rare form of arthritis.

“Basically it limited my physically capabilities and I have lost a lot of independence,” says Joey Fletcher.

Fletcher continues to search for ways to regain his independence.

“I’ve been trying to find ways to do things on my own without having to have assistance from other people,” said Fletcher.

So, using his sharp science skills, and the help from a family member, he engineered a remote control lawn mower.

“I purchased a few electrical components, bought a new mower, built a frame around it, and basically just combined it together, so I can mow my own yard,” says Fletcher.

He controls the mower by using a remote controller, similar to the one you might use to control a toy car.

“It was pretty fun, finally seeing everything come together, getting it to work. We had a few trial and errors where we had to few problems, but we put our heads together and worked it out,” said Fletcher.

And Fletcher’s not done yet, he plans on adding more to his unique mower.

“I need to install a wireless camera, it’s going to allow me to control from the comfort of my own computer from inside my home,” said Fletcher.

Allowing him to mow down a disease, standing in the way of his independence.
