Muhlenberg County Mustangs FootballGREENVILLE, Ky. (9/3/17) — Muhlenberg County worked its way into the win column on Saturday, defeating visiting rival Hopkins County Central 21-15 in an early-season high school football game.

With the win, Muhlenberg County improved to 1-2.

Hopkins County Central dropped to 1-2 with the loss.

Following a scoreless first quarter, Muhlenberg County led 8-0 at halftime. The Mustangs, under the direction of head coach Hays Browning, managed to carry a 21-8 lead out of the third quarter.

Junior quarterback Joseph Grubbs hooked up with senior receiver Karsen Steele for Muhlenberg County's first touchdown. But later in the game, Grubbs was forced to leave the field with a high ankle sprain.

Grubbs' replacement, Bronzyn Healy, connected with fellow sophomore Alec Drake and Steele on touchdown passes covering 31 yards and 76 yards, respectively. Healy's scoring passes allowed Muhlenberg County to take a 21-8 lead into the fourth quarter.

Hopkins County Central quarterback Jackson Bergant threw six interceptions in the loss.

Senior Jared Bean returned an interception 88 yards for a touchdown and Gage Weathermax scored on a three-yard run. for the Storm

Muhlenberg County is scheduled to venture to McLean County while Hopkins County Central is slated to visit Todd County Central on Friday, Sept. 8. Kickoff for each game is set for 7 p.m.
