Madisonville North Hopkins MaroonsMORGANFIELD, Ky. (9/9/17) — Week 3 in the Kentucky high school football season brought a halt to a Madisonville-North Hopkins winning streak. Madisonville-North Hopkins suffered its first loss since falling to Owensboro in a season opener as host Union County won 28-14 on Friday.

With the loss, its second straight setback, Madisonville-North Hopkins dropped to 2-2.

Union County moved to 3-0 with the win.

Madisonville-North Hopkins — the nation's top high school rushing team — managed to pick up only 147 yards on the ground. Through its first three games, Madisonville-North Hopkins had rushed for 1,343 yards.

The Maroons took a lead early when Jariah Hightower rushed for a 45-yard touchdown. Hightower scored on Madisonville-North Hopkins' opening possession.

But Union County never faltered. The Braves reached the endzone three times before halftime to take a 21-7 lead into the break.

Madisonville-North Hopkins closed the gap when Marquise Parker returned a punt for a touchdown in the fourth quarter but couldn't get any closer.

Madisonville-North Hopkins is slated to host rival Hopkins County Central on Friday, Sept. 15.
