Basketball on courtHENDERSON, Ky. (3/6/18) — With University of Kentucky men's basketball head coach John Calipari in attendance, KyKy Tandy scored 33 points to lead University Heights past Christian County 78-70 in the Second Region Boys' Basketball Tournament championship game at Henderson County High School on Monday night.

With the win, University Heights improved to 23-7 and advances to the Boys' Sweet 16.

Christian County concluded its campaign 22-8 with the loss.

The Blazers excelled late to pull out the hard-fought win and move on to the state tournament.

A balanced University Heights offensive effort featured four scorers in double figures. Ta'Quan Hollowell posted 13 points while Drew McGowan and KJ Crump added 11 points apiece.

University Heights led 23-12 at the conclusion of the first quarter but trailed at the break. Christian County went on a 17-4 run in the second quarter on its way to eventually leading 36-33 at halftime.

Christian County, prior to University Heights thriving late, owned a slim 56-55 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Detorrion Ware led Christian County with a game-high 40 points. Accompanying Ware in double figures for the Colonels, Cory Trice scored 13 points.

University Heights will face the Region 10 champion in the opening round of the Boys' Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena in Lexington on March 15.
