apollo eagles logo 2015OWENSBORO, Ky. (3/12/18) — Apollo will face Ninth Region title winner Covington Catholic in the first round of the Boys' Sweet 16 on Thursday.

The Eagles are poised to face a veteran-laden team. One of the top boys' high school basketball teams in the state, Covington Catholic is 31-4 overall. Senior guard CJ Fredrick leads the way for the Colonels. Fredrick is averaging 22.5 points per game. Covington Catholic features three players who are averaging double figures in the scoring column. Senior guard Aiden Ruthsatz (14.3 ppg) and senior center Jake Walter (11.7 ppg) are other key scorers for the Colonels.

Apollo (16-15) also features a group of productive scorers. Offensive leaders for the Eagles are senior guards Nathan Boyle (15.3 ppg), Hayden Shelton (13.5 ppg), Alex Gray (12.5 ppg) and Angel Saldana (8.6 ppg).

Tip-off for the Apollo-Covington Catholic game is set for 8 p.m. ET on Thursday at Rupp Arena in Lexington. The pairings and schedule for the Boys’ Sweet 16 follow.
