WC logoDIXON, Ky. (3/18/18) — The Webster County softball team is set to open its 2018 season at home versus visiting Second Region rival Crittenden County on Monday, March 19.

The Lady Trojans, under the direction of head coach Greg Sutton, reached the semifinals of the 2017 Second Region Softball Tournament. Eventual state champion Madisonville-North Hopkins ended Webster County's 2017 season, defeating the Lady Trojans 5-1 in the Second Region Semifinals. Following the loss to Madisonville-North Hopkins, Webster County, which had finished runner-up to Union County in the Sixth District, exited the 2017 season with a 22-11 record. The Lady Trojans owned the fourth-best record among Second Region softball teams in 2017.

Crittenden County, a nemesis from the neighboring Fifth District, boasted the third-best record among Second Region softball teams one season ago. The Lady Rockets, following a loss to Union County in the opening round of the Second Region Softball Tournament, ended the 2017 season 27-8. Crittenden County advanced to the Second Region Softball Tournament after finishing runner-up to Lyon County in the Fifth District.

The Lady Rockets are under the guidance of head coach Stephen Smith.

Webster County edged Crittenden County 4-3 in the two high school softball teams' lone meeting in 2017.

Heading into the 2018 season, Webster County is ranked 25th in the state. Lady Trojan Karlie Keeney, a junior pitcher/infielder/outfielder, is ranked among the state's top high school softball players.

First pitch for the Webster County-Crittenden County softball game is set for 5:45 p.m..
