Smith Mills 1UPDATE: SMITH MILLS, Ky. (3/4/18) — Henderson County Sheriff's Office has released new information concerning a fatal crash that occurred Saturday afternoon in Smith Mills.

Shawn Michael Nelson, 45, was identified as the driver who suffered fatal injuries.

UPDATE: HENDERSON COUNTY, Ky. (3/3/18) — A single-vehicle collision resulted in the death of one adult man and injured a young female who was taken by medical helicopter to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana for treatment of injuries.

Authorities say the youth is expected to recover from injuries sustained in the crash.

Henderson County Sheriff’s Office deputies have not released the names of those involved in the accident, which happened around noon today along the 11,000 block of Kentucky 359 near Smith Mills.

Emergency crews arrived to find the 1989 Ford Ranger off the road, according to the report.

It appeared the driver struck a tree that caused it to break and fall onto the vehicle. The man was trapped inside, while Good Samaritans passing by were able to free the juvenile from the wreckage.

HCSO reported the Henderson County Coroner pronounced the man dead at the scene.

HENDERSON COUNTY, Ky. (3/3/18) — First responders in Henderson County are at the scene of an automobile accident with injuries this afternoon.

A medical helicopter landed near the crash site at approximately 12:30 p.m. along Kentucky 359 in Smith Mills.

It is believed a child was injured and is out of the vehicle. An adult in the vehicle was said to be unconscious.

A tree was knocked down and is lying across the road. State highway crews have been called to remove the debris. Smith Mills Fire Department, Corydon Fire Department and Rescue and Henderson Emergency Medical Services responded.

Henderson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
