Pursuit 10 4

UPDATE: HENDERSON, Ky. (10/5/18) — An Irvington man who led multiple law enforcement agencies through four counties at speeds that reached 130 mph resulted in felony charges.

The pursuit began 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Grayson County, Kentucky State Police Post 16 Trooper Corey King reported. A trooper spotted the fleeing vehicle headed north on William Natcher Parkway. The driver went through Ohio, Daviess and Henderson counties before a trooper used a PIT maneuver to end the chase along the U.S. 41 strip in Henderson about an hour later.

The fleeing driver crashed with another vehicle on the strip and had taken off beforehand, according to the report. He also ran several drivers off the road and into the median, resulting in no related injuries.

King reported the pursuing trooper applied a legal intervention using his Dodge Charger, causing the suspect’s Ford to spin off the road.

Authorities used their cruisers to box the black Ford Focus in, keeping the driver from going anywhere else.

The suspect, later identified as Alek A. Nelson, 24, refused to cooperate with police commands and resisted arrest, King said. A trooper used a taser on Nelson, who was taken by ambulance to Methodist Hospital for possible seizures. He was later transferred to Owensboro Health.

Nelson is still in the hospital under guard in the Owensboro facility, KSP reported this morning.

Nelson was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (more than 8 ounces of crystal methamphetamine), disregarding a stop light, leaving the scene of an accident, driving on a suspended or revoked license, reckless driving, first-degree fleeing police, first-degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest.

Post 16 indicated other charges for Nelson are likely as Grayson and Daviess County authorities are pursuing warrants on their charges.

Grayson and Daviess County Sheriff’s deputies, Owensboro Police Department, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office and Henderson Police Department assisted in the pursuit.

HENDERSON, Ky. (10/4/18) — A vehicle pursuit that began on the Audubon Parkway ended in a crash along the U.S. 41-N strip in Henderson shortly before 6:30 tonight.

Kentucky State Police troopers and Daviess County Sheriff's deputies were behind the vehicle, and officers from Henderson Police Department and Henderson County Sheriff’s deputies provided assistance as the pursuit entered the area.

The driver seen speeding in a black Ford Focus was apparently throwing items from the vehicle during the pursuit. The person, believed to be a man, was taken into custody after the vehicle crashed into a car lot and another northbound vehicle in front of Henderson Chevrolet, just north of Watson Lane.

Medical emergency personnel were called out to the scene following the incident to provide treatment of possible injuries related to the crash.
