Owensboro Catholic logoOWENSBORO, Ky. (5/23/19) — Owensboro Catholic captured a title on Wednesday, beating rival Owensboro 8-5 in the 9th District Baseball Tournament championship game at Chautauqua Park.

With the win, Owensboro Catholic improved to 21-14.

Owensboro dropped to 23-10 with the loss.

Both Owensboro Catholic and Owensboro advance to the 3rd Region Baseball Tournament.

Sam McFarland pitched Owensboro Catholic to the victory. McFarland allowed four hits and three runs over six innings, striking out seven as he claimed the pitching win.

Another Owensboro Catholic pitcher, Finley Munsey, threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Owensboro pitcher Nick Belcher Nick took the pitching loss. Belcher pitched three innings, allowing four runs on three hits while striking out five and walking one.

Owensboro Catholic outhit Owensboro 9-7. Andrew Wiman, Luke Scales and Alex Castlen led the Aces with two hits apiece.

Belcher and Collier Higgs each collected multiple hits for the Red Devils. The versatile Belcher went 3-for-3 at the plate to pace Owensboro in the hits column.
