Health Fair 3 12 2MADISONVILLE, Ky. (3/12/18) — More than 25 vendors participated with the Western Kentucky Community Health Partner Coalition during a Family Health Fair to provide health screenings and educational booths at Parkway Plaza Mall Saturday.

Dr. Michael Howard, vice president for Education and Research at Baptist Health, said the inaugural event was a collaborative effort to promote the importance of health in the region.

“The Coalition is something they have been putting together and is still growing with a purpose to bring together, not just health people, but people who have a role to play in the social and economic aspects of health, because it’s actually the socio-economic determinants that drive community health and not really doctors and illness, It’s our environment.” Howard said.

Vendors participating included Madisonville Police and Fire departments, Hopkins County-Madisonville Public Library, Hopkins County Community Clinic, Hopkins County Schools Preschool Program, Health First, YMCA, Madisonville Ambulance Service, PHI and others.

Baptist Health Family Medicine residents were on hand with their “Teddy Bear Clinic.”

The Teddy Bear Clinic was complete with exam tables, an area to take vitals, a surgery area to repair rips and tears and an X-ray machine.

Family Medicine Specialist Dr. Brittany Crider said they hoped their Teddy-Bear Clinic would make going to the doctor a little less scary for little ones.
Howard said all participants, who volunteered their time for the community, have a significant role to play in keeping people healthy.
