Cobb CalebEARLINGTON, Ky. (8/9/19) — A Hopkins County man arrested earlier today on an outstanding warrant has been charged in connection to Thursday night’s assault investigation involving two toddlers that are in a hospital.

Deputies and emergency personnel were called out to 309 Partridge Drive 6:30 p.m. Thursday to investigate the violent assault.

Caleb A. Cobb, 25 of Quail Run Apartments in Earlington, fled from the building after two young males under his care were found injured in the home. Cobb was located in a field off Farmers Crossing Road in White Plains this morning, Hopkins County Sheriff Matt Sanderson reported this afternoon. Cobb fled on foot, but was apprehended and served with a warrant on the charge of failure to appear in court on an unrelated charge.

Cobb has been charged with two counts of first-degree assault and tampering with physical evidence in relation to Thursday night’s assault invesitgation, following a lengthy interview with sheriff's deputies today. The sheriff indicated the agency has gathered a significant amount of evidence.

Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office Detective Joe Stratton is leading the investigation.

Both children were in critical condition this morning in a regional hospital, the sheriff said.

According to a Facebook post shared by several area residents, the mother stated one of the children had a brain bleed and his entire facial area and head were swollen, while the younger toddler was in NICU, with a brain bleed and broken jaw.

Cobb was taken to Hopkins County Jail, where he was listed as being held this evening on $501,000 cash bond.

UPDATE: (8/9/19) — Authorities arrested a 25-year-old man this morning.

Witnesses nearby say he was found in a field near Nortonville surrounded by authorities.

Hopkins County Sheriff's Office spokesman Major Will Coursey said Caleb Cobb, 25, was arrested on the strength of an outstanding warrant unrelated to the assault of two children Thursday evening in Earlington.

Coursey reported a press release will be sent out as soon as possible in reference to the assault investigation, which required hospitalization of the children.

JUST IN: EARLINGTON, Ky. (8/8/19) — Hopkins County Sheriff's Office reported deputies were sent to Quail Run Apartments in Earlington to investigate a child abuse complaint this evening.

When deputies arrived, two small chidren had been assualted, HCSO wrote. They were taken to an area hospital for treament.

More information will be provided as HCSO continues its investigation.

EARLINGTON, Ky. (8/8/19) — Officers and first responders including a medical helicopter were seen at Quail Run Apartments in Earlington around 6:40 tonight.

It is believed police are searching for a person involved in allegedly injuring two young children at a residence. Authorities have not confirmed that information.

Police agencies in Hopkins County are searching for the person allegedly involved, who apparently fled in a vehicle from the home after the children's mother arrived to find her toddlers with injuries to the face.
