May 2018 primary muhlMUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (12/5/17) — A former Muhlenberg County Sheriff has joined two other Democratic contenders for the 2018 May Primary Election in Muhlenberg County.

Jerry D. Mayhugh of Central City filed Nov. 21 to be a candidate.

Two more Democrats have filed for the District 1 Magisterial race — Roger L. Smith Jr. of Drakesboro and Malcolm West of Central City.

Kevin W. Brooks has filed for the Democratic nomination for Magistrate District 2.

Kevin Gunn has filed as a Democrat for Magistrate District 5.

Democrat Rondal Hambrick has filed for Constable District 1 and Billy Ray Landrum has filed for Constable District 5.

Incumbent Central City Mayor Barry Shaver has filed for the non-partisan seat he now holds.

Belinda S. McKinney, a Democrat, has filed to run for the Muhlenberg Property Valuation Administrator position.

A third Democratic primary candidate for Muhlenberg County Court Clerk. Kyle Thomas has filed to run.

Andy Flener has filed for the Democratic nomination for Magistrate District 1.

Incumbent Democrat Brent Sherrod has filed to run for Magistrate District 4.

George Reed Caskey Sr. has filed to be on the Central City Council ballot. The non-partisan offices are filled by the top eight vote getters in the November General Election.

MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (11/17/17) — The candidate filings in Muhlenberg County for the 2018 May Primary Election are racking up at the Muhlenberg County Clerk’s Office.

Filing opened last week and so far, the field of Democrat candidates outnumber the Republicans by a large margin, which is typical for a Muhlenberg County Primary Election.

Sheriff Curtis McGehee has thrown his hat in the ring but not for the sheriff’s office. McGehee has declared his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Muhlenberg Judge-Executive.

There is a Republican candidate for the Judge-Executive position, Mack McGhee, who could face the sheriff in the November General Election.

Two Democrats have filed for the Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s post — Jerry Knight and Ricki Allen. Both have law enforcement experience.

Two Muhlenberg Sheriff’s deputies have filed for Muhlenberg Jailer. Terry Nunley and Terry Vick, both Democrats, are vying for the position held by retiring Jailer Mark Curry.

Long-time Muhlenberg Coroner Tony Amour is not seeking re-election to his position but has filed to run for Central City Mayor. The mayor’s post is non-partisan.

Democrat Larry D. Vincent has filed for the Muhlenberg Coroner job.

The familiar names and faces continue with First District Magistrate Cozy T. Chappell filing to run against fellow Democrat and long-time Muhlenberg County Clerk Gaylan Spurlin for his job along with Kyle Thomas of Belton.

Democrat Ryan K. Rice has filed for Muhlenberg County Attorney. Rice is assistant County Attorney under retiring Darris Russell.

Circuit Court Clerk Camron Laycock, a Democrat, has filed for re-election to the position he now holds.

Democrats Paul E. Parker and Andrew Flener have filed for Magistrate District 1 and Tommy Watkins has filed for re-election as Magistrate District 3; for Magisterial District 2, Democrats Davey Douglas opposes Michael Sublett for the May Primary while Republicans incumbent T. Darrin Benton is opposed by Donny Cain for the nomination; in Magisterial District 4, incumbent Brent Sherrod, Keith Phillips and Allen Matthew Harris are vying for the Democratic nomination while Republican Charles Short has filed for the nomination; in District 5, Andrew Bullock, a Republican, and Troy Flener, a Democrat, have filed.

Republican Don Paschal has filed for the Constable in District 2; Democrat Lorenza A. Abrams II has filed for Constable in District 3; Darris S. Albro, a Democrat, has filed for Constable in District 4; and, Democrat Tim Franklin has filed for Constable in District 5.
