MURRAY, Ky. — Samantha Durbin, Registered and Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist, has joined Murray-Calloway County Hospital to offer outpatient medical nutrition therapy and nutrition counseling in several departments.
Durbin works with patients at Bariatric Solutions to prepare a nutrition plan before and after weight-loss surgery to maximize results. She also offers self-pay nutrition counseling to the public in half-hour and hour-long sessions through the Center for Health and Wellness. Her goal is to assist others in taking control of their health through education, empowerment and encouragement to make individualized and healthy lifestyle changes.
“I’ve been interested in food, nutrition and health care my whole life, which is why I chose to study Nutrition/Dietetics. There are a lot of preventable nutrition-related diseases and I like helping people find their personal solution,” Durbin said.
A 2012 graduate of Murray State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition/Dietetics, Durbin previously worked at Paris Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Paris, Tenn. as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. Her experience there allowed her to manage kitchen staff, approve cycle menus and meal substitutions, conduct medical nutrition therapy and implement nutritional interventions to maintain overall health status and meet established goals of residents. Prior to that, she completed a Dietetic Internship at both MCCH and Spring Creek Health Care.
Samantha is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and is working towards completing a Master’s Degree in Nutrition Sciences from Murray State University. Originally from Paducah, she enjoys traveling and reading in her free time as well as spending time with her family.
