MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (12/6/17) — A Muhlenberg man is the third person to be charged in connection with the murder of an Ohio County man whose body was found in a toolbox dumped in a creek.

Kentucky State Police charged 29-year-old Marcus Branden Boyken of Greenville today in connection with the incident that occurred in July 2016. Boyken was charged with tampering with physical evidence by KSP at the Kentucky State Reformatory in LaGrange, where he is serving time on unrelated charges.

An Owensboro man was also charged last week in connection with the death of Tromain Mackall, 29 of Hartford. Mackall was reported missing July 25, 2016 and his body was found Aug. 2, 2016 in the Falls of Rough area of Shady Creek.

Mackall was reported last seen at a gathering near Whitesville in Daviess County. Due to the lack of cell phone, social networking or contact with the family, authorities determined Mackall could have been the victim of foul play.

Ohio County Sheriff’s Office contacted Daviess County Sheriff’s Office that the investigation had expanded beyond Ohio County and KSP was notified. Investigators determined that Mackall was among seven people at a gathering in Whitesville and was involved in a physical altercation. The investigation culminated in a search warrant for a residence on Collier Road, Falls of Rough.

The body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office for cause of death and positive identification. According to the Grayson County Coroner, Mackall died of multi-modal asphyxiation.

On March 14, KSP charged William E. Howard Jr., 48 of Falls of Rough with Mackall’s murder, after being notified by the Kentucky State Police Crime Lab that Howard had been linked to the murder. Howard was located in Brandenburg in Breckinridge County and also charged with kidnapping and tampering with physical evidence.

KSP said the investigation is continuing.
