CALLOWAY COUNTY, Ky. – The Calloway County High School fishing team placed three two-man teams among the top five at the first fishing tournament of the year hosted by Trigg County High School on Kentucky Lake Saturday, February 9th. Twenty-six teams from five schools battled early morning sub-freezing temperatures to begin the 2013 high school fishing season. Marshall County’s boat with Thomas and Cross claimed first place with a total weight of 20.13 lbs.
The Laker team of Brandon Falwell and Nathan Camp caught a limit of five lunker bass to place second with a total weight of 20.10 lbs. coming up only .03 of a lb. behind the winners. The duo of Bracken Robertson and Dillon Starks placed a close third with a total of five fish weighing in at 19.72 lbs. Placing fifth with a total weight of 18.71 lbs. was the team of Austin Jackson and Tim Thurman. CCHS anglers and their boat captains brought in a total of 30 bass with a weight of 109 pounds.
The Lakers will resume tournament action on March 3 when they compete in Murray State University's Open with a total purse of $4000 in scholarship money to be awarded.
