CALLOWAY COUNTY, Ky. – The Calloway County High School Bass Fishing team claimed 1st, 3rd, and 4th place finishes in Saturday’s Murray State Open Kentucky High school Bass Fishing Championship. Battling air temperatures in the 20’s and icy conditions on the launch ramp, the Laker team put nine boats in the water to compete against a total of 54 boat/teams from six states.

Calloway County’s Reed Finley along with Student Angler Federation member, Brandon Oswald, of Saratoga, Wisconsin took the top prize of two $2000 scholarships with a catch of five largemouth bass totaling 25 lbs., 3 oz. Finley also laid claim to the Big Bass Award with a largemouth weighing in at 6 lbs., 4 oz.

The Laker team of Bracken Robertson and Dillon Starks finished third with a five-fish limit of 21 lbs only 4 ounces behind second place finishers Mourand and Chessor from Reidland High School. Robertson commented on his boat’s finish, "The conditions on the lake were brutal today. Water temperatures in the 40s and riding into the wind made for a rough start to the day. Dillon and I pulled together as a team to make it work. We are pleased with the outcome."

Calloway also reeled in the fourth place finish. The team of Tyler Schanbacher and Jesse Vaught caught their five fish bag casting around drop-offs and brought in a total of 20 lbs., 1 oz. For the tournament, the CCHS Laker Bass Fishing Team placed six teams among the top twenty.

The Lakers will resume tourney action next weekend as they travel to Lake Barkley to compete in the Lyon County Invitational.
