Outdoors with Big Country – Summertime Fishing

KENTUCKY – It’s the middle of June, the beginning of summer, and the water temperatures are rising into the 80’s. Now is the time most people want to go fishing.
 
I suggest that you try fishing early in the morning or late in the day to avoid the midday hot sunshine, as well as to help in locating fish that bite in low light conditions.
 
Unless you are fishing tail waters with current, such as Barkley or Kentucky Dams, fish are sometimes hard to locate in the summer heat. Bluegill are, according to some sources, on the bed in most lakes, and bass are near the banks at times, generally near drop-offs.
 
If you can locate any running current in water, this would be the ideal area to cast a line into. River current is really good for fishing, as several different species are generally in that sort of location, such as catfish, stripes, crappie, bass and more. Rough fish congregate in current to feed on small baitfish.
 
While out on the waters during the summer, stay safe and keep updated on weather conditions. Thunderstorms can move in fast, and on the water is the last place you want to be when it is lightning.
