HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. — Kayakers young and old came out on a beautiful Saturday morning to support the CASA Program of Hopkins, Webster and Crittenden Counties Inc.
Family Court Judge Brandi Rogers (5th Judicial Circuit), said, “Kayaking for CASA was a wonderful event. Kayaking is just a fun and relaxing activity for the whole family. It was great to see so many people turn out from Hopkins, Webster and Crittenden counties in support of this program that focuses on being a voice for children in terrible situations. It was such a creative and fun event and we really enjoyed PeeWee Lake and Mahr Park.”
More than 25 kayakers, both experienced and new to the sport, showed up Saturday morning. CASA had kayaks on hand to “borrow” for those that did not have one. Many sponsors from businesses from all three counties supported this event, making it a huge success.
“Over $8,000 has already been raised without the donations from the proceeds of the Food Trucks on Saturday,” said Daphyne Maddox, Director of CASA. “The event was a success with lots of people coming out to eat, watch the kayakers, participating in kayaking, and enjoy a beautiful day at Mahr Park. CASA is excited about making this an annual event.”
The fundraising efforts will continue to support abused and neglected children to have trained and supervised volunteer child advocates (CASA Volunteers). These volunteers work alongside child welfare professionals, investigate the details of a case of child neglect or abuse, facilitate services for the child involved, advocate for the child's best interest in court, and monitor the progress of the case.
